Just hold the grip and turn the knurled adjuster to adjust the nib. A unique extension on top of the nib changes the nature of the nib making it soft or hard. Twisting the adjuster to the H direction reduces the nibs flexibility giving it a harder feel while writing. Whereas, twisting the adjuster to the S direction imparts a greater flex and softens the nib feel. The hard
