The kleine Kalmit is a hill (272m) which was formed during the Tertiary and the sinking of the Upper Rift. The area around this hill is called the classical square mile of geology, because it consists of a unique combination of rocks. The soil is extremely calcareous. The mixture of land snail chalk as a base and the changing top soils such as loess, marl or clay, are making this terrain so special.
